What long-term toilet hire means
Long-term toilet hire, or long-term portaloo hire, is any temporary toilet hire that runs for weeks or months rather than a day or a weekend. The toilet stays on site, a service vehicle visits on a set day each week to empty the tank, clean the cubicle and restock it, and you pay a weekly rate for as long as the hire runs.
That’s the main difference from event toilet hire, which is priced per toilet for a single event. Over a long hire, three things matter more than the first-day price: the weekly rate, how reliable the servicing is, and how easy it is to change the order when the job changes.
Our long-term hire has a two-week minimum and no maximum. Some of our hires run for a month, others stay open until the job is done.
Long-term hire is the right choice when
- People are on site for two weeks or more
- The job has no working toilet for the crew or residents
- You need toilets serviced on a regular schedule, not once
- Numbers will change as the project moves on
A one-off event hire suits better when
- It’s a party, wedding or event over a day or weekend
- Toilets are delivered, used and collected in one go
How much does long-term toilet hire cost?
Site toilets are £36 per toilet per week, with weekly servicing included and delivery priced by postcode. Move the sliders for a rough total for your hire.
| Unit | Weekly price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Site toilet | £36 a week | Serviced weekly. Two-week minimum, delivery by postcode |
| Accessible toilet | £100 a week | Level entry, wider door and grab rails |
| Urinal unit | From £150 a week | Takes pressure off the toilets on bigger sites |
| Welfare unit | From £200 a week | Toilet, hot water, rest area and drying space in one |
| Mains-connected toilets and cabins | Quoted | Priced on connection, access and hire length |
The weekly rate is what you pay for as long as the hire runs. What moves the total is the number of units, delivery distance, access to your site and whether you need servicing more than once a week. Our construction toilet hire cost guide goes into more detail.
Servicing on a long hire
On a hire that runs for months, the servicing is what you’re really paying for. A toilet that isn’t emptied on time is unusable within days, and on a building site that means the crew is off looking for a café.
Weekly servicing is standard and included in the weekly rate. Sites with bigger crews may need a second visit each week, which adds to the cost, and we’ll tell you if the numbers point that way before you book.
For projects lasting many months, mains-connected toilets connect to the water supply and drainage, so they don’t need tank emptying at all. A portable toilet cabin is another option for long jobs.
Emptied
The waste tank is pumped out by the service vehicle and taken away.
Cleaned
The cubicle is cleaned and the chemical in the tank is refreshed.
Restocked
Toilet roll and hand sanitiser are topped up for the week ahead.
A regular schedule
Visits run on a set pattern, so the site knows when to expect them.
Who hires toilets long term?
Most long-term hires are on building sites, but not all of them. These are the jobs we arrange long-term toilets for most often.
Housebuilders, groundworks, trades
Construction sites
Toilets from day one, as CDM 2015 requires, kept on hire until handover. Our construction toilet hire page covers site toilets in detail.
Extensions, refits, conversions
Renovations
When the bathroom is out of action for weeks, a toilet on the drive keeps the household and the builders going until the new one is in.
Self-builds, caravans, site living
Temporary accommodation
People living on site in a caravan or cabin while a house is built, where there’s no plumbed-in toilet yet.
Roads, cables, pipelines
Utility and linear works
Jobs that move along a route for months. Units can be relocated as the work moves, or a towable welfare unit can follow the crew.
When the project changes
Long jobs rarely finish exactly when the programme says. The hire should bend with the job, without a new booking every time.
Running over
Extend the hire
There’s no maximum, so if the job overruns, the hire simply carries on at the same weekly rate.
More trades on site
Add units
Add toilets, an accessible unit or a welfare unit as the crew grows, on the same account.
Winding down
Reduce the order
Take units away as crews leave and plots are handed over, so you’re not paying for toilets nobody uses.
Job finished
Off-hire and collection
Tell us the job is done and we arrange collection, so the hire stops when the work does.
Running three or more sites? Our Site-Wide Assurance Programme puts every site on one invoice with a locked rate.
How many toilets do you need?
On a construction site, the usual benchmark is one toilet for every seven workers on a 40-hour week, with weekly servicing. Bigger crews, longer shifts or less frequent servicing all push that number up.
For other long hires, it depends on how many people use the toilets each day and for how long. A family living through a renovation needs one toilet. A crew of 20 needs three or more, plus somewhere to wash and rest.
Our site toilet ratio guide sets out the numbers, and the site welfare compliance checklist covers what else HSE expects.
| People on site | Toilets, weekly servicing |
|---|---|
| 1 to 7 | 1 |
| 8 to 14 | 2 |
| 15 to 21 | 3 |
| 22 to 28 | 4 |
| 29 to 35 | 5 |

Long-term toilet hire questions
How much does it cost to hire a portable toilet for a month?
A site toilet is £36 a week with weekly servicing included, so a four-week hire is £144 per toilet before delivery. Delivery and collection are priced by postcode and shown on your quote.
What is the minimum and maximum hire period?
Long-term hire has a two-week minimum and no maximum. The hire runs for as long as you need it at the same weekly rate.
How often are long-term toilets serviced?
Weekly, on a regular schedule, with the tank emptied, the cubicle cleaned and toilet roll and sanitiser restocked. Sites with bigger crews may need a second weekly visit, which we’ll advise on before you book.
What happens if my project overruns?
The hire simply carries on at the same weekly rate. There’s no maximum hire period, so there’s nothing to rebook.
Can I add or remove toilets during the hire?
Yes. You can add toilets, accessible units or a welfare unit as the crew grows, and take units away as the job winds down, all on the same account.
Is delivery included in long-term hire?
Delivery and collection for long-term site hire are priced by postcode and shown separately on your quote, so you see the full cost before you book.
Do long hires get a better weekly rate?
Often, yes. On longer hires the delivery cost is spread across more weeks, and bigger orders share a delivery. Tell us the expected hire period and number of toilets and we’ll price the most cost-effective arrangement.
Can I hire a toilet for a house renovation?
Yes. If the bathroom is out of action during an extension or refit, a single toilet on the drive with weekly servicing covers the household and the builders until the new bathroom is in.
Is there an alternative to weekly servicing for very long projects?
Yes. Mains-connected toilets connect to the water supply and drainage, so they don’t need tank emptying. They’re priced on connection, access and hire length.
Who supplies and services the toilets?
Toilet Hire Near Me arranges your hire through vetted local suppliers. We handle the booking, servicing schedule, changes and collection, so you have one point of contact and no suppliers to chase.
