Wedding Toilet Hire: How Many Toilets You Need, Trailers and Costs

Most weddings need one luxury toilet trailer sized to the guest list: a 1+1 for up to about 50 guests, a 2+1 for up to 100, a 3+1 for up to 150, a 3+2 for up to 220 and a 4+2 for 250 and up. Add an accessible toilet if any guests can’t manage steps. If budget comes first, allow one portaloo per 35 to 40 guests for a full day with a bar.

How many toilets do I need for a wedding?

Go by the number of guests at the busiest point, usually the evening reception, not the number at the ceremony. A full wedding day with a bar needs more toilets than most people expect, because guests visit far more often once the drinks start.

The table shows what we’d suggest for a full day with a bar. With a free bar, or if the party goes past midnight, go one trailer size up. Whichever you choose, add an accessible toilet if any guests use a wheelchair or can’t manage steps, because trailers have steps up to the doors.

Move the slider to your evening guest numbers and tick what applies. You’ll get a trailer size and the portaloo alternative, with guide prices for both.

We would suggest 2+1 luxury trailer £850 delivered
  • Or 3 portaloos at £420 delivered
  • Needs level ground, vehicle access and power nearby
  • Book early for summer Saturdays

Can you go cheap on wedding toilets?

You can save on the type of toilet, but not on the number. Cutting the number is where weddings go wrong: long queues in good clothes, and on a busy night, tanks filling up before the party ends.

We’ve had couples ask for two portaloos for 120 guests with a bar. That’s a real risk of running out of capacity before the evening is over. Four portaloos, or a 3+1 trailer, is the safer number.

If budget is tight, portaloos are the cheaper way to get the numbers right. A trailer is worth it when the toilets are part of how guests remember the day: running water, lighting and mirrors matter when people are dressed up and touching up make-up all evening.

Ways to keep the cost down without cutting corners

  • Ask about your location, as some areas come in lower than our base prices
  • Count evening guests honestly, then pick the size that fits
  • Mix a trailer for the wedding party with portaloos for a big evening crowd
  • Book early, before summer Saturdays sell out
  • Add urinals rather than extra cubicles once numbers get high

Do I need more toilets if there’s a bar?

Yes. In our experience, alcohol increases toilet use by around 30 to 40%, and a free bar more than that. Guests also visit more often as the evening goes on, so the busiest time is usually late in the reception, not straight after the meal.

Tell us honestly about the bar, the finish time and whether anyone is staying overnight. A longer party or overnight guests can fill a trailer’s tanks, so we may suggest a bigger size or a service visit. It costs far less than a trailer running out on the night.

  • Short reception, no bar. Stick with the size for your guest numbers.
  • Normal bar, done by 11pm. The sizes in the table above.
  • Free bar or a late finish. Go one trailer size up, or add portaloos.
  • Guests staying or camping. Plan a service visit, and showers if they’re staying more than a night.

Marquee, barn or garden: what the venue needs

A trailer needs four things: level, firm ground, a clear route in for the towing vehicle, power nearby for the lights and flushing, and water from the mains or a tank. We check all four with you before booking.

Measure the gate. One customer in Slough wanted a trailer in the back garden for a party, but the gate was just too narrow, so it went in the front garden instead. If the only route is through a side passage, portaloos or a smaller trailer may suit better.

Place the toilets close enough to the marquee to be handy, but away from the dining area, with a lit path after dark. Our guide to where to place portable toilets has more detail.

Tell us when you book

  • The venue postcode and the exact spot for the toilets
  • Gate width, steps, tight bends and low branches on the way in
  • Where the nearest power is, or if there’s a generator
  • Marquee build and take-down times, so delivery fits around them
  • Evening guest numbers, bar type and finish time

Luxury toilet trailers for weddings

A luxury trailer has flushing toilets, hot and cold running water, lighting, mirrors and vanity units, with separate ladies’ and gents’ sides. The numbers describe the layout: ladies’ cubicles first, then gents’. A 3+1 has three ladies’ cubicles and one gents’ cubicle with urinals.

Trailer prices vary by location across southern England. The prices here are our base rates with delivery, setup and collection included, and some areas come in lower.

“…Delivery and take down was super smooth with no issues, giving us notification of arrival times prior and the trailers were clean and fully working order. What more can a customer ask for.”

“Lenny came to deliver the toilet trailer for our garden party. We wanted it in the back garden, Lenny tried his utmost best but, unfortunately the width of our gate was marginally small and he wasn’t able to get the trailer through. But Lenny never gave up and continued to find different ways, from using his car or manually trying to push the trailer into the garden. Eventually I asked him to put it in the front garden, to which he kindly placed it. Throughout Lenny stayed calm, polite and respectful. If we have an event again we will definitely use Toilet hire near me.”

Wedding toilet hire FAQs

How many toilets do I need for a wedding?

For a full day with a bar, plan on a 1+1 trailer for up to about 50 guests, a 2+1 for up to 100, a 3+1 for up to 150, a 3+2 for up to 220 and a 4+2 for 250 and up. With portaloos, allow one per 35 to 40 guests. Add an accessible toilet if any guests can’t manage steps.

How many toilets do I need for 100 wedding guests?

A 2+1 luxury trailer, or three portaloos for a full day with a bar. With a free bar or a late finish, go up to a 3+1 trailer or four portaloos.

Do I need a luxury toilet trailer for a wedding?

You don’t have to, but most couples choose one. Guests are dressed up and the day runs into the evening, so flushing toilets, running water, lighting and mirrors make a real difference. Portaloos are the cheaper option if budget comes first.

How much does wedding toilet hire cost?

Trailer prices vary by location across southern England. Our base rates are from £750 for a 1+1, £850 for a 2+1, £875 for a 3+1, £950 for a 3+2 and £1,050 for a 4+2, with delivery, setup and collection included, and some areas come in lower. Portaloos are £140 each delivered, and accessible toilets £135 plus delivery.

Do I need more toilets if alcohol is being served?

Yes. In our experience, alcohol increases toilet use by around 30 to 40%. With a free bar or a party past midnight, go one trailer size up or add portaloos.

What happens if I don’t hire enough toilets?

Long queues, unhappy guests and, on a busy night, tanks that fill up before the party ends. It’s the one place not to cut back, so pick the size for your evening guest numbers.

Do I need an accessible toilet at a wedding?

If any guests use a wheelchair or can’t manage steps, yes. Trailers have steps up to the doors, so we add a ground-level accessible toilet with grab rails beside it, at £135 plus delivery.

Where should the toilets go at a marquee wedding?

Close enough to the marquee to be handy, away from the dining area, on level, firm ground, with a lit path after dark. The trailer also needs power nearby and a route in for the towing vehicle.

Does a wedding toilet trailer need power and water?

It needs a power supply nearby for the lighting and flushing. Water is mains or tank fed depending on the venue, and we agree both with you before booking.

Will a toilet trailer fit at my venue or garden?

Measure the gate and check the route for steps, tight bends and low branches. If access is tight, a front garden, drive, smaller trailer or portaloos may work better. Tell us about the venue and we’ll confirm what fits.

What if guests are staying or camping overnight?

Tell us when you book. Overnight guests mean more use, so we may suggest a bigger trailer, a service visit or extra portaloos, and showers if guests are staying more than a night.

How far ahead should I book wedding toilets?

As early as you can. Trailers are the first units to go for summer Saturdays between May and September, so many couples book months ahead.

Can I hire a trailer and portaloos together?

Yes. A trailer for the wedding party with portaloos or urinals for a big evening crowd works well, and it’s all on one booking with one point of contact.
