What CDM 2015 says your site needs
Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, every site must have suitable toilets and washing facilities from the first day of work, for as long as the work lasts. That applies to small domestic jobs as much as big developments.
The rules sit in Schedule 2 of CDM 2015, and HSE’s guidance on toilets and washing on construction sites sets out what “suitable” means in practice: enough toilets for the crew, kept clean and lit, with hand washing next to them.
We match your site with a supplier in our network who has units close by, then organise delivery, weekly servicing, swaps and collection, so you have one contact for every site you run.
Site welfare checklist
- Enough toilets for the crew on site at once
- Hand washing with water, soap and drying
- Drinking water
- Somewhere to change and store clothing
- A rest area for breaks
The full list is in our site welfare compliance checklist. A welfare unit covers most of it in one.

Ask for a priceSite toilet calculator: how many, and what it costs
Move the sliders for your crew, hire length and number of sites. The calculator works out how many toilets HSE guidance suggests and what they cost at our weekly rate.
The thinking behind these numbers is in our site toilet ratio guide and site welfare checklist.
The Site-Wide Assurance Programme
Running several sites at once means several things that can go wrong: a toilet that isn’t serviced, a unit that is damaged, a welfare inspection that flags a problem. The Site-Wide Assurance Programme puts all of that on us.
It is open to contractors with three or more active sites. We are taking on a limited number of new contractor accounts this winter, and accounts that sign up now lock their rate through to March.
- Zero downtime guaranteeA same-day swap if a unit fails, or that day’s hire is free.
- Price lockYour rate is fixed for the life of the agreement.
- Compliance guaranteeWelfare inspection issues fixed within 24 hours.
- One invoiceEvery site on a single consolidated invoice.
- Free welfare auditA welfare compliance check on every site when you sign up.
- Priority contact lineA direct number for your account.
- 20% offWhen you order ten or more units in a year.
Weekly servicing, delivery and placement
A site toilet is only as good as its servicing. Every site toilet is serviced weekly on a set day, and the visit is included in the £36 weekly rate. Sites with bigger crews may need a second visit, and we will tell you if your numbers point that way before you book.
Delivery and collection start from £80 per toilet, priced by postcode and shown in your quote. Units often go out the next day or within a couple of days, depending on stock in your area. Tell us where the toilet should stand: on a tight street, a portaloo on a driveway or in a front garden is usually simpler than a welfare unit that needs parking space.
- Emptied. The waste tank is pumped out and taken away.
- Cleaned. The cubicle is cleaned and the chemical refreshed.
- Restocked. Toilet roll and hand sanitiser topped up for the week.
- On schedule. The same day each week, so the site knows when to expect it.
- Moved or added. Units swapped, added or collected as the job changes.

Construction toilet hire FAQs
How much does site toilet hire cost?
Site toilets are £36 per toilet per week, with weekly servicing included and a two-week minimum. Delivery and collection start from £80 per toilet, priced by your postcode and shown in the quote before you book. Accessible site toilets are £100 per week and welfare units start at £200 per week.
How many toilets does a building site need?
HSE guidance works on the number of people on site at once: one toilet for up to 5 people, two for 6 to 25, three for 26 to 50, four for 51 to 75 and five for 76 to 100, then one more for every extra 25. Each toilet also needs hand washing nearby. The calculator on this page does the sums, and the site toilet ratio guide explains them.
Do I need toilets on site from the first day?
Yes. CDM 2015 requires suitable toilets and washing facilities from the start of work, including early groundworks and short jobs. A site toilet with hand washing covers the first weeks, and a welfare unit can follow as the crew grows.
Does a building site need a disabled toilet?
Not on every site. CDM 2015 requires suitable facilities for everyone on site, so if a worker or regular visitor is a wheelchair user or has limited mobility, you need an accessible unit. It is also sensible where the public use the site. Our accessible site toilets are £100 per week.
How often are site toilets serviced?
Weekly, on a set day, and it is included in the weekly price. Each visit empties the tank, cleans the cubicle, refreshes the chemical and restocks toilet roll and sanitiser. Busy sites with big crews may need a second visit each week, and we will tell you if your numbers point that way.
How quickly can you deliver a site toilet?
Often the next day or within a couple of days, depending on supplier stock in your area. Call 07432 332 921 and we will tell you straight away what is available.
Do you offer deals for contractors running several sites?
Yes. Contractors with three or more active sites can join our Site-Wide Assurance Programme, with a zero downtime guarantee, a price lock, one invoice across every site and 20% off when you order ten or more units in a year. We are taking on a limited number of new contractor accounts this winter.
Where can I find construction toilet hire near me?
We arrange site toilets across the south of England and South Wales through a network of local suppliers, so units come from close to your site. See our locations or get a price for your postcode with the instant quote tool.
Can a site toilet go on a driveway for a house extension?
Yes. For extensions and refurbishments, a portaloo on the drive or in the front garden is usually the simplest option. It needs a level spot the delivery vehicle can reach, and if it has to go on the pavement or road, check with the council first.
